Air Compressor Oil is very important to keep your machine running smoothly and lengthen the product life. Make sure you use the right oil for the compressor, so please stay away from car oil, motorbike oil or things alike, as it will damages your air compressor.
Take a step back and see how oil benefits your air compressor:
- Provides lubrication for every parts of air compressor. As the machine runs, the oil will make the parts run smoothly among each other.
- It dissolves the heat, emitting from the air compressors when running. A well cool-down air compressor will have greater efficiency and last much much longer.
- The compressor oil blocks the air from leaking out, to maintain the efficiency of the machine.
- One reason to not use other oil type for your air compressor, is that the oil could get very hot when your compressor running, up to 120 degree. Other kinds of oil are not made to withstand such heat, apart from air compressor oil.
Possible Oil Compressor Failure and What to do?
When the air compressor runs for a prolong period of time, it will get heated up too much, and the oil inside will form a layer covering parts inside your machine (from the pipe to the cooler). This is very bad, as the oil will then fail to cool your machine (even get hotter), which finally will shut down your air compressor against your will.
You really do not want to reach this stage, as it will require a thorough check of your machine and chemical treatment. The worst case is that all “contaminated” parts have to be replaced. It would cost a lot.
Prevention is better than cure. Have a check when run your machine, such as waiting for your air compressor to cool down once in a while, and use the right kind of oil, will do great length in helping you avoid that grave scenario.
